My Noise

Dedicated to one man’s colossal waste of time

This page houses my original music. You may like it, you may run screaming from your desk! This is stuff I’ve done in my makeshift home studio. If you really like this stuff, tell your friends. If you hate this stuff, tell your friends!

While I’m working on the new stuff I plan to post on this page, I thought (at the  badgering of loved ones), I’d post some stuff I did about 12 years ago.  These songs are just me, my guitars and a drum machine recorded at home on my old 6-track Sansui deck.

Wonder

This is a song about wondering about, you know, stuff. I actually entered this song in a song writing contest held by a local, now defunct, alternative rock station here in Calgary. It made it to the finals but then they wanted “my band” to play it at a live gig. I said “whoa, this is just me, and I thought this was a song writing contest, not a performing one” Well that was it. Anyway, I think this one has a bit of XTC influence in it. If you want to hear a really GOOD song on this topic, listen to Andy Partridge’s “I Wonder Why The Wonderfalls” , the theme song for the series ‘Wonderfalls” The man’s a genius. A video for it is here :  www.youtube.com/watch?v=25EaSgw9xY4

Don’t Tell Me

My wife asked me if this was written from personal experience. No. It was just an exercise. I just wanted to try writing a “hurtin’” song. It’s simple but I think most people like it.

The Day The Earth Stood Still

This is born out of my love for Sci-Fi TV and movies. It’s about how certain events can sometimes bring the world to a stop. These events can be good but more often than not, are bad.

Believe

I wrote this during a “my life sucks, why can’t I get a break?” period in my life. It’s kind of a love song dedicated to my human safety net and wife/best friend Lisa. When the chips are down, she’s always been there to hold on to and believe in. Listen to Jane Siberry’s “The Life Is A Red Wagon”. Part of the chorus : “You pull for me, and I’ll pull for you”  That’s what it’s all about. It’s that simple.
